چکیده

The incidence of aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid [ASA]) overdose and related childhood deaths has decreased significantly in recent years. Reasons include pediatricians’ preference for acetaminophen preparations, the Food and Drug Administration’s mandate limiting 36 tablets of baby aspirin to each bottle, and the use of child-resistant caps. Unfortunately, the severity of this poisoning may be underestimated because of the lack of familiarity with the clinical picture. Salicylate toxicity can cause metabolic acidosis, seizure, hyperthermia, pulmonary edema, cerebral edema, renal failure, and death. Morbidity and mortality are increased by delayed diagnosis in elderly patients with chronic medical problems and in young patients diagnosed with an acute illness.

Assessment of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug combinations by the polyurethane sponge implantation model in the rat.

The anti-inflammatory effect of single doses and combinations of aspirin and commonly used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs was investigated by the polyurethane sponge implantation model of acute inflammation. Dose response curves were performed to delineate a suppressive (high) and nonsuppressive (low) dose of each drug prior to studying these doses in combination with aspirin. The results...

Advances in oncology.

PL Numerous drug agents and drug classes have been evaluated as chemopreventive compounds for colorectal cancer prevention. The most widely studied are probably the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 selective inhibitors. Nonsteroidal agents, including aspirin and ibuprofen, appear to have a beneficial effect based on data primarily from observational studies, but a...

Association of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and aspirin use and the risk of head and neck cancers: a meta-analysis of observational studies

PURPOSE Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), including aspirin, have emerged as the potential chemopreventive agents for a number of cancer types, however, previous studies of head and neck cancers (HNC) have yielded inconclusive results. We performed a meta-analysis of observational studies to quantitatively assess the association between NSAIDs use and the risk for HNC. METHODS We...

Aspirin treatment reduces platelet resistance to deformation.

The present investigation has evaluated the influence of aspirin, its constituents, and other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents on the resistance of human platelets to aspiration into micropipettes. Aspirin increased the length of platelet extensions into the micropipette over the entire negative tension range of 0.04 to 0.40 dynes/cm after exposure to the drug in vitro or after ingestion o...

Nonsteroidal anti-Inflammatory drugs and cardiovascular risk.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which exist in at least two isoforms, COX-1 and COX-2. Aspirin and older agents in this class are nonselective inhibitors of both COX-1 and COX-2. Newer agents termed "coxibs" are selective inhibitors of COX-2. Among the NSAID, only aspirin has been proven to significantly reduce cardiovascular risk, primarily th...

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs using and risk of head and neck cancer: a dose–response meta analysis of prospective cohort studies

Conflicting results identifying the relationship between nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs using and head and neck cancer risk. Therefore, we performed this meta-analysis to clarify and quantitative assessed the relationship between nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs using and head and neck cancer risk. Up to March 2017, 11 original publications were included in this meta-analysis. Our res...
